Record $3.72m hockey card case sale fails, will return to auction

Originally “sold” for $3.72 million in February, a case of O-Pee-Chee likely holds as many as 27 Wayne Gretzky rookie cards — each of which is worth millions in peak condition.

Soon after the auction, the winning bidder said he was not paying the full bill. After months in purgatory, the case will get another chance at auction next month.

PSA has graded more than 75 million sports and trading cards. To find something truly exclusive, collectors will instead have to look for the group of cards where a PSA 10 has never been found: The “No PSA 10 club.”

With creations like a Babe Ruth-Shohei Ohtani dual auto to a Michael Jordan game-used logo patch, these “DIY” cards often look better than the mainstream releases.

A pair of autographed and inscribed Air Jordan XIIIs, gifted by Michael Jordan to NBA referee Jimmy Clark, are poised to sell this month at Goldin Auctions with a colorful backstory.

The inscriptions, which include "To Jimmy Good Luck" and "P.S. Can I Have Calls!!" are traced back to the Chicago Bulls' 111-72 thumping of the Denver Nuggets in 1998.
